How to manage emotions in risky jobs?

Résumé : Professionals of risky jobs of health and security sectors make an important emotional labor (Hochschild, 1983), and activate their emotional competencies (Salovey and Mayer 1990). How these two concepts are articulated ? A case study compares these sectors about the management of emotions of the professionals. Their emotional competencies enable them to achieve the emotional labor, most of the time a deep acting, required by the organization and by the public. HRM have an interest to take into account the emotions mobilized, to preserve the health of the professionals, and to ensure the quality of their interventions.
