Los tres mil personajes que caben en Gilberto Owen

Abstract : The poet Gilberto Owen (Mexico 1904-United States 1952) lived most of his life abroad; it's no wonder that Sinbad and Ulysses inspired his poetry. The expatriate experience increases his tendency to dematerialization and explains perhaps his references to Peter Schlemihl, who lost his shadow and spent the rest of his life wandering the world. In reply to dematerialization, maybe, the first-person splits ad infinitum, creating thousands of pseudonyms or heteronyms, a bit like Pessoa. This may be the reason why the Mexican poet states the "three thousand personages contained in Gilberto Owen".
