A Time to Live, A Time to Die (1985) is an autobiographical film by Hou Hsiao-hsien, in which the director, who was born in China in 1947 but grew up in Taiwan, recalls his youth and adolescence. The movie is part of a "biographical trilogy," through which the director reconstructs the memories of his generation.
