An Empirical Study of Organizational Commitment Based on "Systemic Modelling" and "Complex Thinking".

Résumé

This paper presents an ongoing empirical study on organizational commitment. The empirical part of this study is based on qualitative data, which have been gathered via both in situ observations and practice narratives. Organizational commitment is studied in a symbolic interactionism framework, which leads us to consider commitment as a complex dynamic process. Some cognitive tools that can be used to embrace complexity rather than reduce it are laid out, namely various notions and principles of “systemic modeling” and “complex thinking”. Some examples are provided which show how these tools can be used to develop actionable knowledge about commitment.
