Inégalité sociale et cohésion territoriale, pour une lecture rawlsienne du territoire brésilien

This article offers an analysis of Brazilian territory based on the ‘Theory of Justice' of the philosopher John Rawls. This theory sees social justice not as a question of egalitarianism but as the optimisation of inequalities in favour of the less well-off, once the equality of the intrinsic value of people is accepted. Such a conception of justice provides a fertile context for the interpretation of a territory as a differentiated spatial configuration conforming or not to justice as a form of equity and as the object of a development process which is the application of the principle of distribution. This approach is applied from a temporal perspective (the historical transformations of social links and socio-spatial actions) and at several scales which combine together, from the micro-local (the private space of the home) to the international (the integration of Brazil in the globalisation movement).
L'analyse du territoire brésilien est ici fondée sur la théorie du philosophe John Rawls : la justice définie non pas comme l'égalitarisme, mais comme l'optimisation des inégalités au bénéfice des plus modestes (principe du maximin), une fois reconnue l'égalité de la valeur intrinsèque des personnes. La démarche suivie lit le territoire comme une configuration spatiale différenciée conforme ou non à la justice comme équité et objet d'un aménagement compris comme l'application du principe de réparation. L'approche est faite ici à travers le temps long (les transformations historiques du lien social et des pratiques socio-spatiales) et à plusieurs échelles qui se combinent, du micro-local (l'espace privé du logement) à l'international (l'insertion du Brésil dans la mondialisation).
